We are California's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical San Jose raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most San Jose pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:
- Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
- Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
- If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
- Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
- When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation
San Jose Raccoon Control Tip: What Do I Do If a Raccoon Is on My Roof?
One evening you were sitting at your home watching television or laying in bed when you all of a sudden start hearing a rather odd noise outside. It's coming from above you, and it is not long before you realize that something is on your roof. You go outside to look, and there is a raccoon scurrying across your roof. You have a major problem.
Why Is a Raccoon on My Roof?
This is probably the first question you asked yourself. Why would there be a raccoon on your roof? It's a question that really has no good answers for you.
The two primary reasons why a raccoon would be on your roof is to find food or shelter. Let's start with the second of those. It could very well likely be that there is a whole, gap, or crack in your roof or siding that the raccoon is using as an entryway into your home. That means it is either living in your attic or in the walls of your house. Neither one of those are things you particularly like to hear it all.
You also have to worry that the raccoon has climbed in your chimney and is living above your fireplace now. That is a major problem as well, not only because it denies you use of your fireplace, but because the waste and fluids of these animals pose a danger to your family.

What Can You Do?
The first thing to do is to keep yourself panicking. A lot of people want to scurry up on the roof to try to scare it off, but that is not a good idea. This is a wild animal that carries diseases, and the last thing you want is to get sick from a bite or scratch from a raccoon.
Instead, take out your garden hose and try to spray the animal off your roof. Get it to leave. You can't do a search of the outside of your home while the raccoon is there, so getting it off the roof is your starting point.
Once it is off, go up to your roof with a flashlight. Thoroughly review any areas where there are loose boards, cracks, or gaps. See if there are shingles that are broken, or if a siding board is missing. They should be fairly noticeable, as a raccoon is not a small animal. It need some space to get in your home. Also, look down the shaft of your fireplace.
If you don't see anything right away then you will need to search the next day. Keep in mind that raccoons are nocturnal creatures. That means they will be asleep at that time. So be careful when doing your inspection. If you have noticed some area where it is getting man, then you will need to do some repairs.
